It happened...

Brandon told me that he will give me a good-bye kiss BEFORE he goes outside. Just how big does he think he is? I mean, seriously, I don't actually go TO the busstop. That was so last week!

And today he brought home a note from the teacher. We have been expecting these. But it was only a Kindergarten Progress Report. And it was WONDERFUL!!!! He loves going to school! And getting up in the morning is getting easier too. Thank goodness!

Jess is doing very good too. She has had a spelling test and reading test already. A and B grades. Keep it up!!

Brandon-isms

This boy of ours comes up with the funniest things. While his point of view often leaves us laughing, he has quite the words of wisdom. Many times we tell each other that we need to "write that one down!" and share with friends and coworkers. I thought I would actually get one down on paper... so to speak.

So to set the stage, we were all out front this evening. I was working on pruning the mums. Jess was helping (for about 5 minutes, but I'll take it). Thinking that we could use this as a "teachable moment," explained that it is important to pick the dead ones off so that the plant can use that energy to make new flowers grow. Jess says that daddy told them that. (good, she remembers!)

So out of the mouth of my babe: Plants are like humans. They grow and they grow until their bodies get old and then they die. Right, mommy?

Yes, grasshopper.

And another one to add, from a couple weeks ago. Just before they started school, I asked him what he wanted to wear for the first day of school. (This is usually pretty important to Jess.) In his infinite wisdom, shrugs his shoulders and tells me, "I don't know. Something in my closet."

today

Jessica's "fancy" hairdo using the combs she received from her Grandma. Dang does it ever make her look like she is growing up before my eyes! (well, you might think so too, if I had posted a picture of her face...just take my word for it!)

Brandon just off the school bus. We found a caterpiller in the driveway that he decided to play with. Is he just too cute or what!?!

Dog day

Not just any dog day, but this dog's day. Today Duchess is 9 years old. She is such a good dog. Barks alot. At every person that walks by our house. So I guess that could go into the "protecting her territory" category. She still has the "puppy bark" everyday when Daddy gets home. She is so glad to see him! With the exception of a few more grays on the snout, she is still just a big ol' pup.

woof woof, bark bark

And Happy Anniversary to Uncle Alvin and Aunt Shannon!! Hope you enjoyed your special day today. And thanks again for watching the kids last night. They had so much fun!

First day of school

Jess, Megan, Brandon

This one makes me sad....

Meanwhile, my neighbor is singing "It's the most wonderful time of the year!" She said it should be a Back to School song, not just for Christmas.

Maybe next year.

helllloooo....

anybody runnin' this thing?!

We are still here. True to form, it has been quite a while since I've posted. To say that there has been nothing going on, but why no post? But while we have been going about our day to day, getting ready for school (backpacks are ready to go), new school shoes (man, there feet grow fast!). We were tourist in our own downtown. It was Championship week for Drum Corp International. It was fun being at White River park and hearing the corps practicing and all the color. We hung out at home. Kids played in the pool. They washed the van. Jess said that "dirty cars are evil." And even though it is minutes from 10pm, I'm waiting for my girl to some home from a concert at the State Fair.
